16)Leaders Of The New School – The International Zone Coaster

Song: The International Zone Coaster

Album: A Future Without A Past

Year: 1991

Again, this was a really fun song I used to geek out to when the video came on Yo! MTV Raps. Where many see Busta Rhymes to be the only strong link in L.O.N.S, Charlie Brown and Dinco D had their own styles that were really respectable to me. Don’t quote me on this, but Busta’s stretched out words (it’s a sunny day and the sky is briiiiiiight, chickens in the midst everything is riiiiiiiiight…cause I called Dino D and Brooooooooown, Cut Monitor Milo brings the sooooouuunds) came from Zulu Nation talk or possibly it was how Kool Herc’s crew The Herculoids used to speak.

What was really refreshing about the Leaders was as an extension of the Native Tongues they weren’t Afrocentric or bohemian, they were just rambunctious kids who by the same token meant no harm to society. This was just a fast paced record about playing hooky from high school and throwing a house party.

Btw, have no worries the final 15 selections are “classics” for the most part
