21)Jeru Tha Damaja – Cant Stop The Prophet (Pete Rock Remix)

Song: Cant Stop The Prophet (Pete Rock Remix)

Cant Stop The Prophet 12″

Year: 1994

The personification of Mr. Ignorance and his crew of treacherous comrades (Hatred, Jealousy, Envy, Deceit, Anger, Despair, Animosity) was a dope enough concept, but this song wins because Pete Rock busted DJ Premier’s ass royally (Premier did the original on Jeru’s debut The Sun Rises In The East ). These are my favorite drums on a Hip-Hop song ever, the patterns and how hard they hit just really shitted on a great portion of  that era. Where so many people held Pete in such high esteem for his bass lines or the horns on Public Enemy’s “Shut Em Down” remix, this was the one that made me look at him as a god.
